Malawi 2026

Following the County’s successful visit to Malawi in 2024, plans are nearly complete for a return with Scout Network members in June 2026. This expedition is purposefully different in scale and scope to the full visit in 2024. The next full Project Africa expedition is likely to be in the summer of 2028.

Fundraising

Berkshire Scouts Project Africa is currently fundraising for two main purposes: (1) funding for the Malawi 2026 community projects; and (2) supporting local Scouting (especially the Milo Scout Group started during the visit in 2024). All support to meet this funding challenge will be very much appreciated! This can be achieved through activities via the Project Africa Challenge Badge, local fundraising activities, as well as donating directly to our JustGiving page.

The photograph above shows the Malawi Scout leaders that the Scout Network members will be working with. The leaders are proudly wearing their Berkshire Scouts Project Africa scarves with our main contact, Edward (third from left), wearing his recently achieved Wood Badge scarf.

Community projects

Projects will again take place in Milo, the location of the hugely successful visit in 2024, supported by our charity partner (Joshua in Malawi) and our Scouting friends from the Scout Group we helped set up in 2024. The Scout Network members will be refurbishing school classrooms (including repairing and making new school desks) as well as supporting Scouts Association Malawi in establishing ‘kitchen gardens’ as part of their national ‘Food for Life’ project.

It’s also hoped the Scout Network members will be able to help with a rainwater harvesting scheme to help store water for the ‘kitchen garden’ project as well as for general use by the local community.

The photograph above shows local Scouts working on their ‘Food for Life’ project.

Some of our Scout Network members will be using the community projects to complete the Scouts of the World Award (SOWA).
