Scouts

The Scout section caters for young people aged 10–14 years. There are over 2500 Scouts in Berkshire enjoying their Scouting across approximately 100 Scout Troops. There are a variety of activity and challenge badges which they work towards to gain their Chief Scout’s Gold Award.

ELEVATE26

ELEVATE26 is an activity and leadership camp for APLs/PLs/SPLs (and aspiring patrol leaders) and will take place at Scout Adventures Youlbury (near Oxford) during 5–7 June 2026. This will be an opportunity to develop leadership skills, complete parts of the Gold Chief Scouts Award and activity badges, as well as taking part in fun activities. More . . .

WINGS Shield Challenge

In the run up to WINGS 2026, Scouts and Guides from all sections are invited to take on the WINGS Shield Challenge and achieve their badge (badges are free within Berkshire but will be 75p each beyond Berkshire). More . . .

Programme planning

There are lots of resources to support volunteers in planning amazing programmes. Click this link from The Scout Association for starters.

The Scout section

Scouts aims to build and develop young people’s confidence, sense of adventure and outdoor skills, as well as encouraging them to explore their beliefs and attitudes and be creative.  It offers them the independence to put these skills into practice at camps and even on international trips.

Scouts are encouraged to work together and take the lead on all sorts of projects, from community based work to planning games and activities for their meetings.

A Scout Troop is divided into small groups called Patrols, each headed up by an older Scout called a Patrol Leader, and often with an Assistant Patrol Leader.
