1st Reading YMCA Sea Scout Group was formed on February 19th 1908 making us Berkshires oldest scout group. As February is too cold for most people to be out kayaking on The Thames we saved our celebrations until our family fun day this July when we could all get out on the water. The Mayor of Reading Councillor Debbie Edwards came to our waterside activity centre to cut the birthday cake along with a former 1st Reading member Commander Julian Wyatt RN. The Mayor cut the cake using an army sword & Commander Wyatt used his naval sword- much to the delight of the 190 members & their families who attended.
