FAQs - Roger King International Fund
1. What is the Roger King Fund?
The RK Fund was established in memory of the Roger King, a former County Commissioner, County Chairman and County Secretary. Roger was closely involved in Berkshire Scouting until his death in 2003 and was particularly interested in International activities. The Fund is to assist individuals to take part in International Scouting experiences outside of the UK for who, for financial reasons, might otherwise find it difficult to be involved in or be excluded from this important aspect of Scouting.
2. How much can be made available through a grant?
Grants of up to £100.00 per individual are available from the Roger King Fund.
3. Who can apply?
The Roger King Fund is available to all invested young people and adult Leaders.
4. How do I apply?
Applications to the Roger King Fund can be made to the ACC (I) on a form which is also available on the County website. Click here for an application form to download and printout.
5. When do I need to apply for a grant?
Applications should ideally be submitted at least 3 months before the International experience to which they relate.
6. Who need to complete the application?
The application form will generally be completed by the Section Leader and endorsed by the GSL and DC. The form contains a note advising that where an application relates to a young person their parents should be informed.
7. Who decides if I am suitable to receive a grant, and who will know if I receive a grant.?
The applications are evaluated by a small team comprising Rogers wife Jean, the ACC (I), a Scout Leader, an Explorer Scout Leader and a Scout Network member. Your DC may be informed, your application will be treated as confidential.
8. If I am successful do I have to do anything?
If you receive a grant you will be asked to contribute a short article for the County website describing the International experience you took part in. Although the article will not reveal the author received a grant from the Roger King Fund.
