East Reading Explorer Scouts combined forces with South Berkshire Explorer Scouts to raise £1553 at Ascot Racecourse last Saturday. The monies were raised on behalf of the Wessex Youth Trust and the two Explorer Units. Laura from Ascot Racecourse said "they thoroughly enjoyed having the Scouts at this event, and that they would have the Scouts back again anytime".
73rd Reading Scouts raised £317.25 over the year for the Children with Leukaemia Marathon. Each Scout had to do an actvity which contained the number 26. The activities included , 26k cycle, 26 underwater turns, a sandwich with 26 fillings, eating 26 smarties in 26 seconds using chopsticks, 26 hour wakeathon, 26 lengths of the swimming pool, 2600 metres run to name but a few. This fundraisng was a great feat by the Scouts, working mainly on their own. more
With nearly 6000 runners, the Windsor half-marathon's twenty-fifth anniversary was a success with athletes running in warm and dry conditions around Windsor Great Park. Berkshire Scouts Jamboree Unit members helped the race organisers by running the finishing station, handing out medals, drinks and goody-bags to runners. Around half of the two Units helped on the main race day with a number helping set up on Saturday too. more
Berkshire Scout Enterprises Limited are sponsoring the forthcoming Global Team Meeting for the International Team of the Scout Association at The Henry Ford College, Loughborough University, on Saturday 14 October 2006.
This is an ideal opportunity to find out what is available for Explorer Scouts and Scout Network Members and/or, indeed, Leaders to again participate in an International experience.
National Scout Fellowships will be giving presentations and the meeting will hear of the experiences from the young people who have visited so many countries in the last few months. more
Over 600 Cub Scouts arrived at Chalfont Heights Camp on Sunday 24th September to celebrate the 90th Birthday of Cub Scouts. A fabulous time was had by all. Congratulations and thank you to all who made it possible. Full report and photos next week.
A Young Leaders Activity will be held 15th October 10 am ‘til 4pm at the Longridge Activity Centre, Marlow. The cost is £10 per person to include Rafting, Dragon boating, Kayaking, Team Challenges and refreshments and is for anyone 14-18yrs helping as a Young Leader. The day will be a reward for Young Leaders and allow them to share their experiences. Contact Mark Elliott for details and to book your places. more
In January 2007 there will be two Duke of Edinburgh's Award workshops to support the Award within Scouting. These workshops will be aimed at D of E Advisers, District Explorer Scout Commissioners and County Scout Network Commissioners. more
Explorer Scouts (14 years and above), members of Scout Network and Adult Leaders aged 18-25 may register for the Duke of Edinburgh Award through Berkshire Scouts. An updated registration form is available here.
Since the beginning of this year, Child Protection Workshops have been held in South Berks, Maidenhead, Loddon, East Reading, Reading Central and Pang Valley, at the invitation of District Commissioners.
The Workshops concentrate on our responsibilities within Scouting and aim to reinforce the Association’s Child Protection Policy, increasing our awareness to protect children whilst protecting our selves. Practical situations are discussed and the value of our ‘Yellow Card’ demonstrated.
If workshops have not been arranged for your District, please contact your District Commissioner in the first instance, or ask if you might join one in a neighbouring District. Up coming dates are:
