With great sadness I have to pass on the news that our ex DC Nigel Goodwin passed away after illness this morning (12 July). I'm sure we all have our own fond memories of Nigel and we will have Pauline, Sian and all his family in our thoughts and prayers. I was lucky enough to visit Nigel / Pauline last night and on a personal thought would just say the character, pride and determination Nigel has shown over the last couple years during his illness has been a great example to us all. The manner in which Nigel has approached this part of his life like everything he did has set an example many of us could only hope to emulate, I know he considered the future as his next adventure and that I think says a lot about him. - Nigel Sayers District Commissioner Kennet District.
A Memorial and Thanksgiving Service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday 28 July at St Nicolas Church Newbury and all his friends from Scouting will be most welcome.
The Vice President of Wokingham District Scouts, John Cooper, has been selected as one of three prize winners that have been chosen as outstanding examples of people who have contributed to the life of their local community. The competition has been organised by BBC(South) and his prize is to spend a week on a sailing yacht for the whole of Cowes Week.
John has made and continues to make a significant contribution to the local community. My supporting comments included his being involved in local Scouting over a considerable number of years. He lead the development and management of the Wokingham District Waterside Centre beside the river Thames which has proved to be a tremendous asset to the life of many in the community and youngsters in Scouting.
Beaver Scouts from Taceham Hundred District celebrated the Beavers 20th anniversary at Wellington Country Park at the weekend. The party was attended by 60 over Beavers, Leaders, and helpers. Everyone enjoyed all the activities the park had to offer and some of our own and we all enjoyed a huge BBQ. Everybody had a great day in very hot conditions! See the photo of the week! more
