The Annual Meeting of Berkshire Scouts at Easthampstead Park Conference Centre on 7 July was a wonderful celebration of Scouting in Berkshire. The highlights of the evening were undoubtedly the presentations from Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Adult Volunteers on various parts of the Scouting Adventure. The meeting started with the thoughts on Scouting from two Scouts from 1st Purley and Pangbourne. There was a slide show and commentary from members of the Pang Scout Link Group on their trip to Kandersteg and a presentation from Explorer Scouts in Reading Central on the great fun and rewards in the Young Leader Programme. Pete Jeffries of 73rd Reading (Park) Scouts provided the meeting with a brief glimpse of his recent trip to a Arab-UK Workshop in Cairo and the imminent launch of a Fellowship group to support further interaction between the UK and the Arab Region.
The meeting watched a fabulous presentation through the eyes of the Photos the Week on Scouting in Berkshire over the last year and presentations were made to the photographers of the winning entries in the Photo of the Year Competition (see below).
The County Commissioner introduced the new format Annual Review and commended it as both a wonderful record of Scouting across Berkshire and as a resource for introducing others to the fabulous adventure of Scouting.
The meeting was attended by Mayors and other Civic Leaders from Unitary Authorities and Town Councils across Berkshire as well as the County Commissioner for Girlguiding Royal Berkshire and her colleagues.
The County President and Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, Philip Wroughton, congratulated the County on the excellent programme over the last year and highlighted how Scouting across Berkshire was very much looking to the next year and beyond. The County Commissioner presented Philip with a 5 Year Service Certificate and a framed photograph to thank him for his contributions to Berkshire Scouting.
The meeting close with the Chief Commissioner, Jane Lewis presenting the County Commissioner, Hamish Stout with the Silver Wolf, awarded for service of the most exceptional nature. The Chief Commissioner thanked everyone in Berkshire for their contributions to Scouting and in particular our partners and families for supporting their volunteer. more
