1 August 2007 - 1 Year to go to the Scouting's Sunshine

Just imagine it -  in one years time to this very day you will be joining with 28 million other Scouts from around the world to celebrate the dawn of a new Century of Scouting.

Scouting was founded on 1st August 1907 and so this day one hundred years on provides an excellent opportunity to celebrate and demonstrate the relevance of 21st Century Scouting for 21st Century young people.  At Brownsea Island, two representatives from every single NSO in the world where Scouting exists, will gather on the island where Scouting began and renew their promise, stood on the spot that those young people stood 100 years ago to the day.

And across Berkshire as the sunshine sweeps around the globe to the UK, Scouts in their Groups and Units will renewing their Promise in their local communities.

And on 1 August 2007 72 young people from Berkshire  will be renewing their promise along with 40,000 other participants at the 21st World Scout Jamboree in Hylands Park Essex - follow the Jamboree Units on the Berkshire Scouts Jamboree Website.

Centenary Adventure

On the 1 August 2007 you will be 8 months in to the Join-in Centenary Adventure. What a time we will have had!  The Join-in-Centenary is a year-long programme of month-by-month activities for all Members of Scouting. In September 2006 specially prepared packs will be sent out - one specific to each Section, helping Leaders provide a busy and exciting year of activity for their Scouts.  The programme will take you on a journey that helps you and your Scouts explore adventure, international friendship, community and the environment among other themes. Join-in-Centenary is also totally interactive, allowing it to be adapted to suit local needs, local priorities and activities.  Group Scout Leaders will receive copies for their Colonies, Packs and Troops; District Commissioners will receive copies for their Explorer Scout Units, plus one each of the Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer packs to enable the District to provide Programme support.

It is going to be a great time for introducing people to the adventure of Scouting - a fabulous time to to get more Adult Volunteers and to provide even better Scouting to even more young people across Berkshire.
