Nobody could remember there having been a dead heat in the Cub Scout Quiz, but the County’s Cub Scouts beat even that with a three way tie in a close fought contest. The photograph shows the three winning teams, from Pang Valley, South East Berks and Wokingham sharing the trophy. The County Cub Scouts Quiz attracted 8 teams, each representing a different Districts. It was held in the headquarters of last year’s winners, 1st Wokingham and was organised by John Shortland. There were all sorts of fun rounds as well as a real quiz with questions on Scouting and Sport, not to mention Science and Nature. The other rounds included identifying the flavour of crisps, fire lighting, building the tallest tower from Duplo bricks, not to mention recognising famous places and naming so celebrities. more
Rita Curran, our acting Assistant County Commissioner for Cub Scouts took the opportunity of the Cub Scout Quiz to present Lynn Smith, who has recently stood down as Assistant County Commissioner for Cub Scouts, with a gift by way of saying “Thank You” for all she had contributed during her time in the role. more

The Web Team have recently upgraded the Berkshire Scouts Web Site to include an SSL Certificate and service (Secure Socket Layer) which provides encryption between web browsers and web servers. This 128-bit encryption is impossible to crack, as it would take millions of years with the fastest computers to try all the combinations. This encryption will further protect users. Over the next few weeks the various services which require you to login or provide personal details will move to this encrypted service. As a consequence some of the links will start 'https' and when you are browsing these pages you will probably see a padlock symbol some where on the browser screen, for example in Internet Explorer it will be in the bottom browser bar. more
