JOTA offers Scouts the opportunity to hook up with other Scouts outside their own country using amateur radio. An estimated half-a-million Scouts and Guides worldwide will be 'on-the-air' over the weekend.
A number of JOTA Stations will be operating in Berkshire at the weekend. The following venues are confirmed:
Pinkney Green Scouts Maidenhead - callsign GB0PG
2nd Bracknell's HQ over the whole weekend - callsign GB4SBS
2nd Thatcham's HQ (Saturday only) - callsign GB5TH
www.radio-scouting.org.uk contains useful JOTA resources for those taking part.
Stations will can be found on a number of frequencies, particularly around 3740 kHz (SSB) and 145.325 MHz (FM)
The Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) takes place over the weekend 15-16 October 2005. If you can organise internet access you can take part. JOTI is an annual event when Scouts make contact with each other by means of the Internet and this means all over the world. It is a great Jamboree experience during which you can exchange ideas and experiences are shared. JOTI is a world-wide event mainly for Scouting groups in all youth programme sections, although members may participate individually.
JOTI is officially open 48 hours, from Saturday 00.00h until Sunday 24.00h local time. JOTI is held at the same time as the Jamboree on the Air - see above. All you need is internet access - you can make contact via web browser, email or a chat room (IRC) - all is freely available. It is a great international experience. more

A RSS news feed has been established for Berkshire Scouts. This enables web sites which are able to receive RSS news feeds to display the most recent headlines automatically. If this means nothing to you don't worry, but if you do make use of news feeds (you need a newsreader such as RssReader) or help support a website which can take RSS feeds then click here for the BerkshireScouts Newsfeed or click on the RSS icon on the front page.
Next week will see the launch of a news page on the Berkshire Scouts displaying the news feed from the Scout Association, Taceham Hundred District and any other Scout related website which generates such news feeds. If you know of others please send the details to the webmaster@berkshirescouts.org.uk.
Scouting offers challenge and adventure to 400,000 young people and 100,000 adults across the UK. We believe in helping our Members fulfil their potential by working in teams, learning by doing and thinking for themselves. We give people of every background the chance to stretch themselves, learn new skills and make life long friends.

We do some pretty amazing things in Scouting, but for us, adventure is a way of life and not just an activity or expedition. Our Scouts grow in confidence by trying out new skills and stretching themselves. Whether it’s an Explorer trying out his French on an international trip or a Scout leading his Patrol for the first time, each time we challenge ourselves, it’s a step forward. When a Scout stands up to a bully, or sticks up for what they believe in; that’s an adventure.
