Thank you to Lynn Smith

You will all be very disappointed to learn that Lynn Smith has found it necessary, for personal reasons, to resign as Assistant County Commissioner (Cub Scouts) with effect from 31st December 2005.

Lynn has performed a really tremendous job as ACC(Cub Scouts) for 4 years now and she will be sorely missed in her role – though I am sure that we will not allow her to disappear from Scouting altogether!

Thank you, Lynn from the thousands of Cub Scouts across Berkshire over the last four years as well as all of the adult volunteers.

Opportunity in the County  Support Team

The resignation of  Lynn Smith creates an opportunity to join the County Support Team as Assistant County Commissioner (Cub Scouts).  The policy in Berkshire is to be as open as possible in inviting nominations (or self-nominations) for roles. Please send your nomination(s) no later than Saturday 26th November 2005 to the County Commissioner, Hamish Stout, by post or by email.  As well as the name of each nomination please add just a few lines outlining why you think he/she should be considered for the role.  It may take a little time thereafter to make an appointment, but the plan is make the appropriate announcement prior to Christmas. more

Responsibilities of Trustees

Charity Trustees are the people who serve on the governing body of a charity. They may be known as Trustees, Directors, Board Members, Governors or Committee Members. Charity Trustees are responsible for controlling the management and administration of a charity. Within each Scout Group and District the Executive Committee Officers and Members are Trustees.  The Charity Commission have produced a booklet with very clear and helpful advice on the responsibilities of a Trustee and this is available on on–line using this link.   Paper copies are available from the Charity Commission and contact information is available in the ResourceBase.

Planning for WINGS2009 successfully launched

The first meeting of the Planning Team on 1 November 2005 at the Waterside Centre was a great success. A think-tank of about 12 volunteers has taken on the challenge of creating the vision for the next WINGS in 2009.  A series of meetings over the next 12 months has been planned.  If you have any ideas for WINGS2009 please send them in to ideas@wings2009.org.uk and they will be sent to the Planning Team.

If you would like to get involved with the planning for WINGS2009 or with other aspects, please register your interest via the registration page for potential staff members. There is also a register of interest page for Units who are thinking about joining the great WINGS Experience in 2009.
