Field Development Officer (Berkshire, Wiltshire & Dorset)

Young people are our future, and The Scout Association plays a vital role in developing them for adult life. The Association has developed a vision and strategy to take Scouting forward to 2012 and beyond. The Scout Association's Field Development Service will be an important element in achieving the vision and The Association is currently looking for a new Field Development Officer to join the team.

This is a home-based post, and the successful applicant will be expected to live in or near their patch. In this role you will contribute to the strategic development and growth of Scouting in the area and provide support to volunteers, particularly with regard to critical incidents. The closing date for application is 3 January 2006.  more

Opportunity to help support Adults in Scouting

Do you enjoy interacting with other people and have access to computer ? Or do you know someone who does? There is an opportunity for a County Appointments secretary/County Record Administrator from 31 March 2006. The role involves processing appointments for members of the County Team (eg Deputy DCs, DCs, ACCs, etc) by obtaining references where required, arranging interviews and liaising with the County Training Administrator.  The role also involves maintaining the County Record for all Commissioner appointments in Berkshire and providing regular reminders to DCs, Deputy CCs and the CC regarding Warrant reviews and renewals. However, you don't need to invent all this as the the administration procedures and the  County Record is already setup. It will just be a matter of taking these over from the current post holder.

There is no requirement to have a background in Scouting and it may well suit and someone who does not wish to take out a warranted position.   Anyone interested in taking on this important role as Assistant County Secretary is asked to contact Tony Fulford (County Secretary) or Douglas Rae (Chair of the County Appointments Subcommittee). more

Position of Deputy Chief Scout announced

Chief Scout, Peter Duncan, has appointed Peter Nicol as Deputy Chief Scout. As Deputy Chief Scout, Peter will principally be responsible for working with the team of Chief Commissioners, attending some of the National meetings, leading some Search Groups, as well as sometimes deputising for Peter Duncan at National events. more

Great Resource - One for all

On 1 January 2007 every Group in the UK will offer mixed Scouting. In the current issue of Scouting Magazine, Helen Johnston explains how the free CD-ROM provides you with the material you need to ensure One Movement Working Together.

Included with this issue of Scouting is your free One Movement Working Together CD-ROM. It’s packed with information and resources to help you develop mixed Scouting in your Group. Whether you are already mixed, or if you are just starting to look at admitting girls from the 1 January 2007, there will be something on the CD that you will find useful.

Bullying

According to ChildLine, half of primary school children and more than one in four secondary school students say that they have been bullied within the last year. With such high figures, it could mean that someone in your Group is being bullied or is a bully. But how do you recognise the signs, and what can you do to help? Check out the resources available here.
