The photo selected this week shows the live radio challenge as Explorer Scouts pitted their tent pitching skills against the Breakfast Show Presenters Jim Cathcart and Maggie Philbin on Radio Berkshire.
On the morning of Friday 1st April, two Explorer Scouts, Claire and Michael from the East Reading Unit challenged presenters Jim Cathcart and Maggie Philbin to a tent pitching race on their Breakfast show on Radio Berkshire as part of an action to celebrate the growth of the Scout Network across Berkshire and the recent increases in East Reading, Maidenhead and Pang Valley.
Yes, tent pitching on the Radio on the 1st of April but it was not an April’s Fool Joke. more
Next weekend 8/9/10 sees Nemesis 2005, an Activity Camp for Scouts from across Berkshire. This year it is at Youlbury Scout Activity Centre near Oxford. Bob Meldrum said "We have well over 200 Scouts signed up for the weekend from all parts of Berkshire, it will be hectic but fun!" more
Berkshire Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Scout Network members will be making a pre-match bucket collection at Madejski Stadium on Saturday 16th April (which happens to be the Reading vs. Notts Forest match). If your troop or unit can help please contact Hamish Stout.
This is part of the “Big Kickabout” which culminates on 22nd May 2005 when The Scout Association is holding an event at Queen's Park Rangers' Loftus Road Stadium. The event is to raise money for the Scout Association and CLIC - Cancer and Leukaemia In Children, one of the UK's most prominent children's charities. The Three Towers Hike™ is a down-land footpath competition hike organised by Reading Central District Scouts. The event is sponsored by Cotswold Outdoor. This is a must-do event - well at least once! The Three Towers Hike operates a series of concurrent events catering for different age groups. These are the 'Junior', 'Explorer' and 'Senior' events. The Berkshire Scouts News Service is one of the recent developments arising from the Plan for the County which seeks to support Even Better Scouting for even more Young People in Berkshire. At a recent meeting (8th March), the Executive Committee of Berkshire Scout Council approved a plan to add all known adults concerned with Scouting in Berkshire to the mailing list for the News Service. This will ensure that all adults receive up to date news on the support, resources, training and activities available to them in their Scouting Activities. more
