Mount Challenge - For Leaders
The Mount Challenge for Scouts involves teams of two Scouts. Teams will have the opportunity throughout the weekend to gain points towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award There will be wide variety of fun and adventure, activities and challenges. Some activities will introduce the Scouts to new skills while other sections will involve individual and team challenges. All will find it fun whether they are eventually Bronze or Gold standard. Each team member will be provided with a detailed record of their achievements over the weekend which you can use to mark off appropriate award sections or badges.
You may find it useful to include activities such as cooking with a single burner, hike tents, navigation etc in your weekly programmes leading up to the Challenge weekend. Each team should be self-contained for a weekend of lightweight camping; all food is provided as well as toilet facilities. If your troop does not have the necessary gear, give us a call, we can probably arrange a loan. Each team will be sent detailed information containing location maps, suggested kit and preparation advice.
One of the common questions asked is “do my Scouts need to be highly experienced ?”. The answer is no, although this should not be anyone's first camp, there will be experienced leaders on hand to guide your scouts through any difficulties with cooking and camping. In terms of the activities and challenges, Scouts will be given guidance and training before they undertake each of the challenges, for that is one of the key features of the Mount Challenge.
Please do not hesitate to contact the MC Team if you would like to discuss the event further. mountchallenge@berkshirescouts.org.uk
