Follow Doc Mount's guide to an easy Mount Challenge Weekend
- Don't make a mess - chucking rubbish on the ground rather than simply putting it in your rubbish bag means you will have all the bother of picking it up later when it is wet and yucky!
- Dont forget that the tent is to keep you and your stuff dry. Keep it zipped up when you are not about the tent and remember to keep all inside.
- Take plastic bags to keep dirty or wet items in so they don't mess up the rest of your stuff
- Ask if you dont know how - getting things wrong usually involves more work
- Watch the food while cooking - burnt food means more work later when cleaning.
- Dont get lost - getting lost means walking further and further and further. Use the compass to establish a basic sense of north (top of map) and south (bottom of map). Using the compass is not a sign of weakness. Not using it probably means you get lost - and then it is more work.
- If there is free food and drink provided at any point - take it and use it, you will be less dependent on your own efforts later on.
- Put the tent up well at the beginning and check it before the sun sets. It is much easier fixing your tent in the daylight.
- Think ahead, filling up the water carrier when you go to the toilet (assuming the water tap is close to the toilet) saves a journey later on.
- When you are at an event with a programme, plan to get up on time so you are not forever behind - catching up involves more work.
- Before the weekend pick a partner who actually does work, picking your mate who is as idle as you will either mean you have to do all the work, or you will be a rubbish team.
