Fellowship Annual Dinner

Members of the South East Berkshire Scout Fellowship enjoyed a pleasant
evening last night at their Annual Dinner at Buratta's Restaurant in
Twyford.
The Fellowship started the 2007 Centenary Year with a Dinner at Buratta's, and assisted in many District Events during the special year including the Sponsored Walk round Windsor Great Park for Comic Relief, many Cub Events, the St George's Day Service, The District Centenary Camp, held walks, visited the Jamboree and the National Scout & Guide Orchestral Concert in Suffolk in August and some members also attended the world Premiere performance of the specially commissioned Symphony "The Great Adventire" covering 100 years of Scouting in Music. Members also attended a performance of Live 07 at the 02 Arena (formerly the Millenium Dome).
Assistance was also given at the final event of the busy year in the District - The Centenary Party for all members of South East Berkshire District. A good time was had by all.
A truly memorable Centenary Year. Now we are ready to help again in 2008

South East Berkshire Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting of South East Berkshire Scout District on 3 July 2007 saw the nomination of Gerald Hill as Chairman of the District, with Derek Jackson as Secretary and Bill Kemp as Treasurer. The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Bracknell Forest Council and the Town Mayors of Bracknell and Ascot. The Chairman thanked Alan Foster for his hard work and long association with the Earleywood Management Committee especially as Chairman. |

Long Service Awards were presented to Jennifer Adams and Sally Lapworth (25 years), Susan Carter, Robert Chandler, Peter Christmas, Florence Hey and Paul Sinclair (15 years), Jacqueline Wakeling (10 years) and Robin Dixon, Derek Brind, Shaun Burry and Stewart Sinclair (5 years) by the District Commissioner Carolyne Bramley.
Deputy County Commissioner for Development Geoff Mitchell thanked all the adult volunteers for another great year in South East Berkshire and highlighted the role of Scouting in drawing people together and working towards a peaceful world.

The meeting was followed by a most interest talk from Dr Simon Leather from Imperial College, London on The Roundabouts of Bracknell. Recent studies have shown that these islands are great venues for biodiversity and that appropriate management yields large numbers of species of insects, plants, bird and mammals.Refreshments followed organised by the Scout Fellowship and plenty of opportunities to catch up with old friends and new thoughts.
South East Berkshire District Centenary Camp

Walton Firs was the venue for the South East Berkshire Centenary Camp. On Saturday, the Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts had 100 challenges to complete, two of them are shown at the top. A few rain showers made sure that is had a real Centenary Camp feel about it. Activities included, a Dr Who Tardis which took participants back to the very start of Scouting, a ballista, spaghetti printing, personal fitness, puzzles, woggle making and so much more. Carolyne Bramley, the District Commissioner said it was great to see everyone camping together.

Young People in South-East Berkshire
Scouting for 6 to 14 year old boys and girls is based in local Scout Groups. There are 8 Groups in the South East Berkshire District offering Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts - To make contact with your nearest Scout Group you should use the 'District contact' given above or follow the links in the list.

Scouting for 14 to 18 young men and women is based in local Explorer Scout Units. There are two such units in the South-East Berkshire District

Young Leaders Unit
Scouting for 18 to 25 men and women is based in the Scout Network which is coordinated on a County-wide basis.
The District works with South Berkshire District to produce the highly regarded South East Berkshire Gang Show which is open to all young people in the District.
Adults in South-East Berkshire
There are many opportunities for adults to enjoy and support Scouting. Working directly with young people in the Sections includes being a Leader; an Assistant Leader; Colony, Pack or Troop Assistant and so on.
The are also opportunities to help at Group level and in the District in 'management' roles. Tasks at these levels include finance; administration; fund-raising; taking care of equipment; and so on.
Adults in Scouting have fun and are well supported with training and through District and County programme teams.
