2nd Woodley Scout Group complete Centenary Challenge
The very active 2nd Woodley Scout Group have recently completed their Community Centenary Challenge. In recognition of the fact that 2007 is the centenary of Scouting, they had set out to acquire one hundred items that they could donate to help young people overseas.
By liaising closely with the local agent for a Romanian orphanage they assembled over one hundred items selected from the orphanage’s wish list. The items collected included tables, chairs, computer equipment, fridge, fridge/freezer, television, wall units, office equipment and many other smaller items.
They amassed all of the items at their headquarters in Vauxhall Drive, Woodley for collection by the charity, who had organised a removal lorry to provide the necessary transport. However, the promised removal lorry did not arrive and the charity could not locate a suitable replacement. Determined that the Romanian children should not be deprived of their gifts, Chas Randle (Group Scout Leader) hastened to find a solution.
It was a great relief that, after many long and frantic phone calls, he found that help was at hand from Twyford Van Hire. Jamie, the manager, hearing of the plight, not only offered an appropriate vehicle, but also provided two of his staff to drive and assist with the loading and unloading. THANK YOU – TWYFORD VAN HIRE!
The Scout Group is now working on further support to orphanages in Romania and Poland. The Scout Group has some vacancies for boys and girls from 6 to 14 years old.
