Building Opportunities for Young People through Scouting in the Oxford Road Area in Reading

Berkshire Scouts Launch Major Development Project
Berkshire
County Scout Council and Berkshire Scout Enterprises Ltd ( BSEL)
have signed a partnership agreement to work together to develop
Scouting across Berkshire. BSEL are employing a full-time Local
Development Officer to work on developing Scouting across Berkshire.
Hamish Stout, County Commissioner said “BSEL have a tremendous record of achievement in the community and we look forward to working with them in taking Scouting to new communities and new places across Berkshire.”
Alan Beavis, Chief Executive of BSEL said “BSEL has supported Scouting both locally and internationally over the last twenty years and we are very pleased to be launching this project with Berkshire Scouts in this Centenary Year”.
The Development Project is co-funded by the Development Grants Board of The Scout Association, Berkshire County Scout Council and Berkshire Scout Enterprises Ltd and supports the employment of a full-time Local Development Officer for a three year period. more
The Berkshire Scouts Development Project focuses on three objectives: (i) to develop further the provision of accessible Scouting to all areas of Berkshire; (ii) to continue to build a youth and adult membership which is more representative of the diversity across Berkshire and (iii) to develop effective outreach programmes in areas of greatest need.
Geoff Mitchell, Deputy County Commissioner for Development said “We simply want to take the magic of Scouting to even more young people in Berkshire – it is a great start to the second hundred years of Scouting”.
All involved with Berkshire Scouting are encouraged to identify Local Development Projects and send in their ideas to the County Development Forum who are responsible for the selection of the projects to be taken forward. more
Thinking about promoting Scouting?
The Development Grants Board of the Scout Association have awarded Berkshire Scouts £2,000 towards the costs of a Berkshire-wide Promotional Project. The funds will be used to provide indoor and outdoor displays and other kit which can be used to promote Scouting. These displays will be available for all to use later in the year. If you have an interest in this area and would like to get involved in developing the promotional kit why drop the team an email via development@berkshirescouts.org.uk.

The County Web Site has launched a new set of pages to enable adult volunteers from across Berkshire to share their ideas, programmes, events and activities with each other. Scout Association MDU

The Scout Association Mobile Display Unit provides a centre piece at any event. In Berkshire its has been deployed in Wokingham and at the County Show at Newbury.
