Goring Heath Scout HQ
Goring Heath HQ, near Reading, Berkshire This is a group HQ that is situated within 4 acres of grassed area that is bounded by trees and farmland. Up to 36 people can be accommodated in the building, which has a main hall and kitchen facilities along with a seperate toilet block.
Campers are able to cook on open fires in the existing hearth areas and there is a supply of wood available from the wood yards that are 200 yards away. In all about 80 people can camp on the land and Patrols can camp here without their Leader by prior arrangement.
As you would expect, activities are limited and the group only offers pioneering poles for residents use, however the location of the HQ makes it an ideal base for walking on the Chilterns or for the one-hour trip into central London. There are some attractions closer by including Beale Park, Wyldcourt Tropical Forrest and Didcot Wave pool all within a 10-mile radius. There is a bus service running out of the village and trains and shops are all within 2½ miles.
