Financial Support for Activity Training

As an Adult Leader or Instructor you can get financial assistance towards the cost of training and accreditation/ assessment to gain an authorisation, permit or the qualifications to run, lead or supervise adventurous and other activities.

Berkshire Scouting is fully committed to further increasing the provision of exciting and worthwhile activities for all young people in Berkshire. To support this aim Berkshire Scouting will fund up to a third of the cost of such training providing you agree to help provide those activities for at least 2 years and have the support of your Group & District.

What sort of activities are covered by this scheme?

1) All adventurous activities requiring an authorisation or permit, such as climbing, hillwalking, mountain biking in wild country, skiing, canoeing, rowing, sailing & sub aqua

2) Scouting activities requiring external qualifications such as shooting & archery

What is not covered by the scheme?

1) Training covered by the national adult training programme, including nights away and first response first aid. These are already provided free of charge in Berkshire

2) Training for personal hobbies. You must commit to running the activities you are being trained in for young people in Scouting for at least 2 years.

3) Cancellation fees, lost deposits etc if you fail to attend or complete a course

4) Training not required to gain an authorisation, permit or qualification

5) Practice sessions to help build up experience.

6) Travel costs

What does this scheme pay for?

Subject to overall budgetary constraints, 1/3 of the cost of the cheapest reasonably easily available training & assessment.

How do I apply?

Complete the application form and send it to Bob Meldrum ACC (Activities) before applying for the course.

When approved it will be returned to you and you should then resubmit it for payment after completion of the course together with evidence of payment & of successful completion.
