2007 - Centenary Camps

In May 2007, Groups, Units, Districts, Counties/ Areas across the UK staged Centenary Camps to celebrate 2007. The aim was to get as many Members of the Movement under canvas at the same time.

Centenary Camps total tops 4000

The total number of people at the Centenary Camps reached well over 4,000.

Windsor and Eton District Centenary Camp

Glorious sunshine greeted the campers at the Windsor and Eton District Centenary Camp at Bears Rails over the weekend 6/7/8 July. Saturday centered on those popular activities such as fires and making twists, followed by a grand Camp Fire with some great sing-alongs. Sunday was the grand activity day with something for everyone

Rupert Allison had some of historical Scouting Collection on show and with quite a few former Scouts there were many reminiscences to recall.

South East Berkshire District Centenary Camp

Walton Firs was the venue for the South East Berkshire Centenary Camp. On Saturday, the Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts had 100 challenges to complete, two of them are shown at the top. A few rain showers made sure that is had a real Centenary Camp feel about it. Activities included, a Dr Who Tardis which took participants back to the very start of Scouting, a ballista, spaghetti printing, personal fitness, puzzles, woggle making and so much more. Carolyne Bramley, the District Commissioner said it was great to see everyone camping together. 

 

Kennet District Centenary Camp

Wonderful sunshine greeted the 300 plus at the Kennet District Camp on the beautiful Englefield Estate. There was much to do with quad biking, climbing, caving and archery along with twist cooking, sumo wrestling, crafts and so much more.

 

 

 

District Commission Nigel Sayers said 'all of the adult leaders across the District had done a fantastic job in putting the camp together.'

On saturday, the participants sampled the different activities available and clearly had a great time.

Sunday saw the the Radio 210 Thunders on site broadcasting live and finding what the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts thought of the Centenary celebration Camp.

 

 

 

 

 

South Berks District Centenary Camp

Blue skies greeted the 300+ at the South Berkshire District Centenary Camp. A vast array of activities greeted the participants ranging from the Africa Experience (see photo) to Spider Mountain.  Saturday evening saw the Battle of the Bands Disco with a camp fire on Sunday.

Conan Fryer, District Commissioner said "It is great to see every Group here and everyone having so much fun. The site here at Birch Hill was arranged by Bracknell Town Council and it gives us great publicity with the surrounding housing areas".

 

 

 

 

 

There were many smiling happy faces even in the rain at the close of the Centenary Camp. At the closing ceremony attended by the local MP Andrew MacKay and his family, the Bracknell Town Mayor Councillor Shelagh Pile said how important Scouting was to the community and how proud its members should be of their achievements both locally and internationally in building a one world one promise movement of 28 million people in over 200 countries.
